Youtube The Words uses public YouTube comment data and optional Google sign-in data to provide rankings, local voting, and community features.

Last updated: 2026-06-19

Data We Process

We process public YouTube video, comment, commentor, like-count, reply-count, category, and region data returned by YouTube APIs.

When you sign in with Google, we store your Google account id, email, display name, profile image, and site profile choices such as nickname and philosopher portrait.

How We Use Data

We use the data to rank commentors, show Hall of Fame snapshots, store Local Vote activity, show site comments, and support moderation features such as reports, mutes, and red cards.

We do not sell personal profile data. Public activity inside the service may be displayed as part of comments, votes, reports, moderation counts, or profile summaries.

Storage and Retention

Runtime data may be stored locally during development or in AWS DynamoDB and S3 in production. Logs may also be retained by hosting and cloud providers.

You may stop using the service at any time. Core ranking, summaries, voting, moderation, and profile features are available, while account-management workflows may continue to improve.

Cookies and Third Parties

We use cookies for Google login sessions, admin sessions, preferences, and anonymous local voting identifiers.

The service integrates with Google APIs, YouTube APIs, Google OAuth, AWS infrastructure, and may integrate advertising providers such as Google AdSense.

When Google ads are enabled, third parties including Google may place and read cookies, use web beacons, collect IP addresses, or use other identifiers to serve, measure, and personalize ads.

Google explains how it uses information from sites or apps that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
