Ranking Detail

How the public square was counted

This view explains the live ranking. It combines popular and latest comments from trending clips, deduplicates repeated comments, then ranks commentors by total likes received. Reply counts are shown as conversation context, but they do not add score yet.

Collection Mix

Popular comments47 / 87.0%
Latest comments7 / 13.0%
Seen in both2 / 3.8%

A comment can be discovered by both popular and latest scans, but it is counted once.

Score Rule

  1. Fetch current trending clips for the selected region.
  2. Read top-level comments by popularity and recency, including their reply counts.
  3. Merge duplicate comment IDs across both scans.
  4. Group comments by author profile URL or display name.
  5. Rank by total comment likes, then comment count, then latest activity. Replies are displayed on demand as context, not scored.

Commentor Archetype Lens

Philosopher style

The card archetypes are not literal philosopher judgments. They are iconic philosopher-style lenses for reading what role a commentor plays in the public square.

SQ
OracleSocrates
Socratic single sentence

Used when one representative utterance moves the square. A single question or sentence carries the ranking.

CF
ChroniclerConfucius
Confucian record and repetition

Used when a commentor appears repeatedly across clips and comments. It rewards a voice that keeps returning.

DG
SparkDiogenes
Diogenic provocation

Used when words pull replies and reaction. A short strong statement becomes the spark of argument.

CC
BridgeCicero
Ciceronian public bridge

Used when a commentor is found by both popular and latest scans, linking established support with fresh response.

AR
ScribeAristotle
Aristotelian ordering

Used for a stable signal that has not exploded yet. It records small evidence in the public square.

For now, the lens uses structural signals such as like share, repeated appearances, clip spread, replies, and whether a commentor appears in popular and latest scans.

Score Examples

InfluenceTotal comment likes

The base ranking still follows public approval: likes collected by each commentor.

PersistenceComment count

Ties favor people who appear across more comments and more clips.

Public SquarePopular + latest

The scan mixes already-liked comments with fresh comments so the ranking is not only old momentum.

ArchetypeStyle and field

HallOfFame can later add a philosophy layer: questioning, rhetoric, power, wit, confession, or synthesis.

Hall of Fame History Score

Historical canon

Hall of Fame adds a history layer on top of live YouTube likes and Local Vote. A commentor who keeps returning across saved snapshots gains durability, not just one lucky viral moment.

History = rank score + current streak² + appearances
Rank Score11 - rank

In each snapshot, #1 gives 10 points, #10 gives 1 point, and ranks after #10 give 0. Scores accumulate across snapshots.

StreakConsecutive snapshots

Only the current consecutive appearance count is squared. No extra multiplier is applied.

AppearancesSnapshots found

Each saved snapshot where the commentor appears adds 1 point. This keeps the early service modest before scheduled batches exist.

Example: 45 total rank points, a 6-snapshot streak, and 12 appearances add 45 + 6x6 + 12 = 93 history points.

Scope and limitations

How to read this record

Operational context for collection, ranking, participation signals, translation, and corrections.

Collection scope

The collector reads selected YouTube Trending regions and categories. Public pages reuse saved snapshots; opening a page does not start a YouTube collection.

Cadence and freshness

Collection runs through an operator-controlled scheduled or manual refresh, so a daily capture is not guaranteed. Each edition shows its exact UTC capture time, and archives preserve qualifying stored dates.

Selection and reactions

Ranking starts with stored comment likes, comment count, and recent activity. Replies describe conversation intensity, while representative editorial labels use disclosed fixed signals and do not diagnose a person.

Local Vote and Hall of Fame

Local Vote is a separate site-participation signal. Hall of Fame combines stored YouTube reactions, local participation, snapshot appearances, rank history, and streaks as described above.

Translation and archetypes

Translation is an optional accessibility aid and may miss tone, slang, or cultural context. Philosopher and Commentor archetypes are interpretive lenses, not personality, mental-health, or moral judgments.

Corrections and removals

Attribution, source, privacy, removal, and misleading-context concerns can be submitted under the Correction Policy. Historical meaning is considered together with safety and accuracy.
