“_Nasubi_ is a reference to Tomoaki Hamatsu, a guy who was a contestant on a cruel Japanese reality show where he was put in isolation in a windowless room for fifteen months from 1998 to 1999 while living on nothing but whatever he could win from sweepstakes in magazines, and ended up eating a lot of dog food and uncooked rice while talking to a stuffed animal. The people running the show intentionally kept information from him so he wouldn't know how long he was in there and they could keep it going for as long as possible. It had a severe psychological toll on him. There's a documentary about it called _The Contestant_ (2023).”
